RE: FDR & High Falls

We have been to High Falls State Park (not the nearby private High Falls private park though) a few times. We always seem to go in cooler weather (fall, early spring) and always enjoy the trip. You cant book by site at High Falls, but there were 2 camping areas last time we were there. River side and lake side. Check RVparkreviews.com for which one would suit your needs better. We liked the river side and the loop with the playground in the middle of it. oh- the falls view restaurant was very good when we went - a few years back.
FDR is wonderful. (we had E/W but not sewer if I remember correctly). I very highly recommend visitng nearby Warm Springs FDR Littel WHite House. There is also a fish hatchery (free to visit) near the Litlle White house. It is a pleasant short side trip or add-on the Little White house visit. The douset trail is very nice. Dowdells point (name?) is very nice - good views. We have been here when it was warm enough to swim at the liberty pool. It was extra fee but worth it - spring fed pool. Probably can find pics at google images.
Now I remember we visited High Falls a few times when it was warm and we drove over to Indian Springs state park to swim. It is fun to see the "Spring" also.
Callaway Gardens is very nice, too.
Enjoy

RE: MI to FL via I-75 where do you stop for the night?

Twins Lakes in Elko, GA is a very nice stop.
We have overnighted in Walmarts where there are other rvs. Its great for late arrivals and early departures. Especially if you dont need to use slides outs or electric.
If you know apx where yo want to stay (city) - post specific request on here for walmarts near there.
Enjoy :)

RE: RVparkreviews.com

I don't know what I would do without rvparkreviews.com. I find it to be a great tool. I pay less attention to the numbers and more to what the reviewer writes. I also find it very handy to locate CGs in a geographic area I am unfamiliar with. (Google maps is good also)

RE: First time in RV - California Trip Advice

Thanks for such quick replies. Checked out the sealion link!!
Is it worth visiting the Napa areas with 2 young children?!?
Anywhere worth staying just north of San Francisco e.g. Marin County?
Any other suggestions??
Any comments on the RV parks I'd mentioned?
Thanks
We went to Napa/Sonoma and stayed at Skyline wilderness parks. Kids were about 7 and 10 ish at the time. Sterling Winery is a good choice with kids as they haev a Tram ride up to mountain. They provided ourkids with crayons and juice while we onjoyed wine on the patio.
Sterling Vineyards website
If you like the doobies brother band and good wine, visit B R Cohn (manager of Doobie Brothers) - very nice wine and there was a friendly dog that entertained our kids.

I guess if your kids do well in restaurants, then a quick visit to a winery should be fine. Mine did well although we had to pace ourselves. My kids actually enjoyed learning about vineyards - of course they didn't taste any :)
And finally an article about kid friendly wineries:

RE: Need campsite along I-20 near Jackson, Miss

I second Roosevelt State park (Morton MS.) It was very nice.
We still sing the M-I-SS I-SS I-PP I phrase off and on in our house. Our kids will never spell it incorrectly :)

RE: Grandkids and cats.

Ahh, the twos... it is an age when eveything the child has ever looked at, touched, imagined or held is "mine!"
I remember when we went o Disney and my son saw a child wearing the same exact pair of "hot wheels" sandals that my son owns. He had a fit - thought they were his!
There are some great books in the library (what to expect toddler years is good) if you want to learn more about child development, but you will also be fine just grinning and loving 'em :)
Congrats on your fine family!
...
Suddenly granddaughter threw a wall eyed fit.. Screaming and crying and grabbed up not only that toy but all of them and piled them around her.. Seems she does not like to share.. I guess they out grow that phase huh? I don’t know nuthing about kids mind you.

RE: RV Camp Ground prices

You can also check rvparkreviews.com to get links to CG websites. Google maps is also a good resource to find cgs geographically.
Good Luck

RE: Does anybody else use Presto logs???

They do make the "fake" logs intended for outdoor use. Maybe certain brands have more of a smell. It's funny... I haven't noticed any unpleasant odor - but I will watch for it next time.
I do notice the odor of chemically "treated" wood being burned.

RE: Changing a Family Traditon

We live far away from extended family, so we like to camp at Thanksgiving. This year we are actually getting to meet some family just befoe thanksgiving. They are driving part of the way to meet us! We r looking forward to it.
I love camping over Thanksgiving. Great weather and everyone in the CG is usually in a good mood.

RE: Does anybody else use Presto logs???

IN my experience they have been less smoky. Maybe because wet or unseasoned wood can cause smoke and we dont always get good wood.
Have been very happy smoke-wise with them, and my son has asthma.
We use the "fake" wood often and are very happy. We like a small fire for ambience and a little warmth in fall - they are perfect.
I especially like that we can leave some in the rv and not worry about finding firewood each trip.
I've never used any of the Duraflame or pressed logs, so please forgive my newbie question(newbie to firepits)-are they any less smoky than the typical cg firewood bundles? Thanks! Let me ask again-Are these logs any less, about the same, or more smoky than plain old wood? I don't want to choke my neighbors...
